Marfa and the Davis Mountains are a great place to visit, especially in the summer, when the high elevations and frequent afternoon showers make it much cooler than the rest of Texas. You might even want to bring a light jacket, rain cover or windbreaker. It can be slightly cool in the evenings, especially in the Davis Mountains.
Of course we hope you will stay with the beautiful and gracious Historic Paisano Hotel, who has been very generous in their support of ¡SWRFITA! by donating facilities and hospitality to the event. www.hotelpaisano.com Let them know you are with the conference when you make your reservation.
The Marfa Chamber of Commerce has a comprehensive list of other local and accommodations, including camping, B&Bs, and other non-traditional hosts (such as at the unique El Cosmico).
There are also chain hotels in Alpine (33 miles from Marfa).
And there is lots to see and do in and around Marfa. Some folks are talking about going up to the McDonald Observatory for the Star Party after the conference (hey, make your reservations – they fill up I think!). Or for a closer jaunt you can run out to see the famous Marfa Lights.
Comments are open for this page so people can make suggestions about stuff to see and do here.
